Our building is outdated. Our mission is not.

For over 10 years our building has been a place of refuge for abandoned, forgotten, and homeless animals in the KC Metro area and beyond. Our shelter has housed tens of thousands of pets in need of rescue from neglectful situations, abuse, life on the streets, and from euthanasia for space in high kill shelters. Animals who all became loving family pets who without our adoption services and programs, would not have had the chance to live.

We moved into our current building in 2012, just one year after our organization was established in our founder, Danielle Reno’s garage. Since then over 39,000 animals have come through the doors of our shelter for safety, rescue and for a second chance to find loving homes of their own. Having been built in the 1940’s, our facility has seen decades of decay prior to us moving in, creating a growing list of costly updates and repairs over the years that we can no longer correct with temporary fixes. Simply put, our building has become severely outdated and is now in need of rescue itself.

More than anything we want to continue to be a haven for animals in our community and beyond but soon we will no longer be able to house animals safely in this space if we are not able to make repairs. Our most immediate and necessary need right now is an entire new roof for our facility. As you can see in the photos above, the current roof and metal decking over our building has deteriorated past the point of repair and must now be replaced. We’ve already been able to raise $75,000 of the $150,000 needed to replace the interior ceiling (decking) and a complete tear off of the exterior roof with replacement but are still in need of the additional $75,000 to pay for the renovation. This funding will be the difference between continued life-saving efforts in the years to come, or the very real possibility of closing our doors in 2023.
